Dog boarding Hobart online pet sitting services-Versus locally owned pet services

Dog boarding Hobart local services compared to on line services a must read for the pet owner looking for dog boarding in Hobart get informed and make the right choices. For you fur child

More and more today we are seeing on line pet sitting/dog minding & dog boarding businesses popping up.

These services offer pet hosting, pet minding and pet walking services are operated from another state & sometimes another country

So I was wondering if we did a comparison on local businesses versus the online services.     So we put them to the test.A couple of my friends joined as sitters who by the way have no pets and not considering to get some any time soon,as they work long hours and feel they do not have the time very smart.

So when they joined a couple of these online businesses they told these companies.               They were home all day (Lie)                                                                                                             They also said they had properties with yards, they lived in units another (lie)                   They sent in pictures of friends yards and even mine.(lie)                                                            They sent pictures of them with friends pets claiming to be pets they have minded before or there own another (lie)                                                                                                             But these business don’t know that do they you are only an online personna to them,so they take what you say as truth but they don’t really know that do they, how could they?     They claim to screen their sitters how do they do this then if they are from are not even in this state or country for that matter.                                                                                           These friends also decided to test their support service. They called up to ask what to do in a situation & find out more info it took 24hours and up to 36 hours to get a reply. Were is the support in that?If it is an emergency you want support asap.                                                Not only that we have gone on line and trolled these sights sitters &  noticed many people we did not put on our books that we had interviewed before,as we felt that they were not the right fit to care for pets and a little skeptical as well as their yards were not secure enough and we pointed out a couple of places that needed to be fixed up before they would be considered, they got a little angry and argumentative on the point.                                       These people are on their websites as pet carers now don’t get me wrong but I was shocked and really thinking that this is just accidents waiting to happen.

Local pet sitting company

I operate a Pet sitting business locally operated called Kimberly’s Pet Taxi and Pet Services. The services we offer. Home stays dog boarding, pet minding, dog walking and house sitting service as well as a pet taxi.

We do screen our sitters we interview them personally in their homes.                                        We inspect their yards to make sure that they are safe and secure.                                           We have managers & myself available 24/7 to offer advice and back up if needed.                  We personally train our sitters in pets first aid and dog behavior as well as the safest way to walk a dog.                                                                                                                                          We hold an annual pets first aid refresher along with tips and new strategies on making you and you Paw guest feel comfortable faster,as well as OH&S procedures on how to keep you & your paw guest safest.                                                                                                            We also do annual yard and home inspections to make sure every thing is still up to standard.                                                                                                                                                 Our sitters attend dog behavior seminars yearly to keep us up to date on any tips or strategies that may help our sitters and paw guests so every thing is how it should be.                                                             We fully insure the pets in our care.

Things to take into consideration when finding or wanting to be a dog minder. It is not easy and sometimes very hard.Dogs will wee, poop spew and chew up your stuff they will dig up your yard.Dogs behave differently in another environment than their own and will do things they would not do in their own homes.

I am a dog minder & also board dogs myself and I think how can you pick the best dog minders if you really don’t know what it is like to care for some one else’s dog yourself.         To operate a business or have great minders they need to know their subject.                          Your sitters need to know this and be very stable people with no anger issues at all.            A sitter must never hit a dog for doing wrong throw it outside and leave it there all day & night as punishment. We tell our sitters if a dog is too much or does your head in or making you angry to call us asap and we will remove the dog and put with a bomb proof sitter.    We also tell them not to feel shame in this as we would prefer them to do this and it shows you care about the dog and they are being responsible. We will not punish the sitter who does this as sometimes a dog will act differently with different sitters and situations.

Bomb proof  sitters

To find a bomb proof sitter is like finding gold and those sitters need to be praised & rewarded.                                                                                                                                             I give my sitters a nice break in a holiday cottage on Bruny Island yearly for free as well as take them out a couple of times a year for a lovely lunch or meal.                                               As well as given a Christmas gift bag yearly.                                                                                   Lets face it these people are your business and you look after your business & clients don’t you?                                                                                                                                                  The sitters are actually looking after your clients babies and their precious family member you as an owner need to feel safe and secure and have that peace of mind who you are leaving your dogs or pets with.

So there you go a little insight on the numerous on line pet care services to the locally operated business.

Dog walking gum tree & internet adds An insight to dog walking by a reputable professional pet care company

So you want to be a dog walker?

How we accumulate our clients mostly is when they are at their wits end and they have been left in the lurch had their time wasted by so called unprofessional people who think that dog walking would be  fun & easy money. All clients want is a reliable service that will turn up and walk their dogs. Rain hail or shine. You also do not have to mind picking up other peoples dogs poo.

Let me tell you dog walkers earn every cent they make & should be respected. When most people want to pay you to walk a dog it is not because the dogs are easy to walk believe me. Most clients have big pully, unruly dogs who are dog aggressive not trained to leash walk ect.To be pulled around by a big pully or small pully dog trying to control them for a full 1/2  hour or full hour is not fun. We trail and test walkers over a 2 week period.

The drop out rate is incredible. In 5 years I have found 4 regular reliable people who walk dogs all day. This would be out of close to a hundred that we have interviewed and started to trial. Not only have they wasted my time but have wasted the time of my dedicated team who help along the way with the process. To give help them the so called easy making money job of their dreams.

Some of these advertised dog walkers on gum tree and other employment internet sites.

Always make me laugh or smile with yeah right when I see them advertise walking your dog for $5 or $10 per hour  for  2 dogs $12 to $18 and then they offer a price for 3 or 4 not only is this unprofessional as it is against the law in the dog act to walk more than 2 dogs at a time If you are going to work with dogs you should know the council rules and regulations of how many dogs is acceptable to walk at each time.If you want a career in dog walking know your subject.

Not only that but it is also not safe to walk more than 2 dogs at a time not just for the walker but the dogs as well.

Dog walkers have to be alert at all the times & be aware of their environment & surrounds around them and make sure they have a firm hold on the leash at all times. Not only would multiple dogs get tangled up and cause you to trip up, maybe a little dog fight might happen between the dogs you are walking .

How are you going to control this with multiple dogs on hand. If they see a cat and the dog/s bolt out to chase it not only would this pull the walker over and cause injury to the walker more than likely they would let go of the leash and therefore set your dogs free. What a disaster. Not only do they have to get one dog back but 3 or 4 no thanks it’s an impossible ask.

If you are thinking of a career in dog walking go to the dogs home and volunteer to walk dogs for them go through the rules and safety regulations of how to safely walk a dog. Then walk dogs for them 5 to 7 days straight for a month. I always say if you can walk a dogs home dog you can walk anything.

If you have lasted and still love it after a month then you are ready to be a good dedicated dog walker. If you do please call me because you are a rare individual that is for sure and we can do with you on our team.

Not only that dog walking is 7 days a week clients do not want you to just walk week days but weekends too and there is no penalty rates.

It is not a 9 to 5 job some of our walkers start walking in the dark am and finish in the dark pm especially in the winter months,

They run from one job to another all day every day.

You must also provide insurance as once money changes hands for a service of any kind you are liable/sueable for any mishaps or accidents that may occur whilst you are walking clients dogs,These can be dog fights not just by the dog you are walking but some other dog attacking your clients dog,if you lose a dog or a dog gets run over. You must protect yourself and your clients from anything that may arise.

Some clients do contact you to walk their dogs as they are time poor and do not have time to walk or they are elderly or disable,Not all dogs are hard to walk but if you want to be a successful dog walking service you can not pick and choose or you will not make money.

Expenses & tools you need to run a successful dog walking business is insurance, dog leads and haltis, dog coats of various sizes for bad weather, petrol money to get from one job to another, old towels to dry the dogs off.Lots of treats of course all dogs love to get a treat’.

A good hat, sunglasses,2 very good all weather coats/Jackets with a hood,2 pairs of water proof pants, Gloves with good gripping on the palm side a Beanie and most important good and supportive walking shoes.

Also patience lots of patience not just for dogs but starting a business such as dog walking is slow and you may not get a job for months and then only a holiday walk and then nothing else. If you want to start off with clientele asap you need to call us as we can give you work straight away and you do not need to take on the burdens of running a business

The Pro’s of dog walking are

You get to meet lovely people who adore their dogs

You get to meet some awesome dogs and bond with them naughty and good, but the naughty ones are just as lovable as the good you will see, Exercise and fitness.

  RESPECT

So next time you see a professional dog walker out and about walking dogs for a job have a respect for what they do they deserve it and the dogs & owners love them too!

If you are looking for walkers who are dedicated and we have trailed and tested them so you do not have to go through the disappointment. Let us take the worry out of that and do the hard work for you so you may get the dog walker you and your dog deserves!

Dogs & Cats Holidays with holidog Hobart

Holiday time is a time to relax, unwind, and take a break from the obligations and stresses of everyday life. The last thing you want to be doing is lying on the beach or lounging by a pool worrying about your dog. Finding someone to watch your pup when you travel is always a challenge. Traditionally, your options involve coaxing an unreliable friend or family member into watching your dog or taking him to a kennel that is simultaneously boarding anywhere upto 60 other dogs. Thanks to the help of  a local Hobart company Kimberly’s Pet Taxi and Pet Services dog owners have another option: In-home dog boarding – Home stays dog boarding, a trend that is becoming increasingly popular for holiday dog owners.

which has been referred to as a dogs home away from home for dogs whose owners are out of town — offers a convenient means of pairing dogs with responsible, affordable, and reliable twenty-four hour home care. Dog owners can search the website for a registered home to leave their dog at while on vacation. Having previously boarded dogs in their own home, dog owners are realizing that finding a trustworthy and comfortable environment for a dog to stay in while its owners are on holiday is often a stressful endeavor. Kennels board hundreds of dogs, keeping many in cages throughout the day or in areas with limited supervision.

Benefits are

  • Kennel-free boarding and the opportunity for your dog to comfortably have access to a full living area.
  • Reduced risk of catching diseases such as kennel cough, which your dog can easily contract when exposed to many dogs at an overnight kennel.
  • An affordable alternative to kennels and pet hotels, with in-home boarding
  • Twenty-four hour supervised care by a responsible and trusted dog watcher.
  • Individual attention and exercise including regular walks, trips to the dog park, and the opportunity to socialize with other dogs in the household.
  • The opportunity to follow a regular routine, such as eating schedules, bathroom breaks, medication necessities, and daily exercise requirements.
  • Dog owners who use in-home boarding services are given the opportunity to select homes for their dogs to stay in that are located in their geographic area. This provides them with the opportunity to stage a “meet-and-greet” with potential dog babysitters. In-home boarding do a background check on canine hosts to make sure that they are qualified to watch your dogIn-home dog boarding is a great way to ensure that your pet is safe while you’re away on travel. When selecting a home for your dog to stay in, make sure that you ask a lot of questions and that you pick a responsible dog sitter who will make your dog as comfortable as you are while you’re away on vacation. Also make sure the dog watcher has your veterinarian’s information and your out of town contact number, and knows what to do in case of an emergency.

A little about the area Kingborough council is the fastest growing council in Tasmania

Kingston is a town on the outskirts of HobartTasmaniaAustralia. Nestled 12 km south of the city between and around several hills, Kingston is the seat of the Kingborough Council, and today serves as the gateway between Hobart and theD’Entrecasteaux Channel region, which meets the Derwent River nearby. It is one of the fastest growing regions in Tasmania.[1] This statistical area had an estimated population of 11,200 in June 2012.[2]

Although the Blackmans Bay region is statistically classed as a separate urban area to Hobart,Kingston is part of the Greater Hobart area. This is in part possibly due to the continuous urbanisation along the river front, its significant size, and the high number of residents working in the CBD of Hobart.

Kingston is a lovely place to live and you are so lucky to be able to have Kingston beach at your door step and Blackmans bay Beach just down the road spoilt for choice;

What You Need:

The only things needed whentraining a dog to paw shake paws is your dog and a handful of treats. If you are clicker training, you will need your clicker.

Here’s How to Do It

  1. Have your dog sit. If he doesn’t know how to sit, go back and practice that command before moving on to step two.
  2. Hold a treat in one hand, and show it to your dog. Close your fist over the treat so he can’t get it.
    1. Give your dog the command “shake,” and wave your closed fist under his nose to keep him interested in the treat.Wait for your dog to start digging in your hand for the treat. Usually dogs sniff around, and when that doesn’t work they begin to paw at your hand.
      1. Wait for your dog to start digging in your hand for the treat. Usually dogs sniff around, and when that doesn’t work they begin to paw at your hand. The moment your dog touches your hand with his paw, tell him “good” or click your clicker, and open your hand and allow him to have the treat.Practice “shake” for 5 minutes, two or three times a day. Your dog will be offering you his paw the moment you give the command

        Troubleshooting

There are a few things you can do if your dog has trouble learning to shake:

        1. If your dog doesn’t put his paw on your hand, no matter how long you try to entice him with the treat, move the hand holding the treat closer to his paw. You can even give his leg or paw a little nudge. As soon as he raises his paw to your hand, give him the treat and follow the directions from step 5 above.
          1. If your dog still doesn’t understand what is expected of him after you nudge his paw, you can try lifting his paw into your hand yourself. Give the command “shake,” reach down and pick up his paw, and then tell him “good” or click your clicker and give him the treat. Repeat this quickly several times in a row giving him a treat each time, and then go back and start off from step 1 above. Most dogs will now understand what is expected, and begin to offer their paw

          Phasing Out the Treat

Once your dog is offering his paw on command, you can begin phasing out the need to hold the treat in your closed hand. Here’s how to do it:

          1. Start with your hand closed over the treat, and give your dog the command “shake.” As soon as he offers his paw, give him a treat from your other hand rather than the one closed in your fist. Repeat this several times.
          2. Next, put out your hand without holding the treat inside and give the command “shake.” Give your dog a treat from your other hand as soon as he offers his paw.
          3. Practice step 2 over several training sessions. If your dog seems confused at any point, go back a step or two in your training.
          4. Now you are ready to phase out the treat almost entirely. Begin by offering a treat less frequently, first by giving him a treat after every other time he offers his paw on command. Slowly decrease the number of times your dog gets a treat after he offers his paw. Soon your dog will be offering his paw on command, and you will only need to give him anoccasional dog treat to reinforce the behavior.

Free house sitters Hobart & Tasmania.Free Pet sitting

Free House sitters

House sitters Hobart & Tasmania sites a few things to consider
This is a good idea until something goes wrong.

I do not charge you to be on a site and then leave you to your own devices.I operate a very affordable house sitting service that you pay for.The amount of people we have to get out of trouble because of free house sitters who decide they don’t want to be there any more or the pets are a pain & driving them insane is huge.Or a better house sit prospect has come through and they want to cancel yours at the last minute.Whether it is a free house sitting service or friends or family when they do let you down it is always at the last minute or whilst you are away already. This is very distressing to the house and pet owner. We get most of our business from free house sitting services who stuff  up.Or need us to go in asap to take over

This is just one example but we have many but the blog would be way to long so we will just use this one for an example.                                                                                                       We went into one just last week the free sitter who was leaving we met with to get the keys from her & take over. The dog jumped up on her a she smacked it in the head really hard and screamed at the dog.I was horrified & this lady minds peoples pets omg.I have people on the phone crying to me needing us to do an emergency take overs all the time and most of the time the owners are out of the state very distressing for the house owners.                   For me these free services supply me with great new clients as they will never want to get burnt again.

With my House sitters.I screen them personally. Have them police checked.I check their references.I supply insurance coverage over your pets and liability. All my sitters are pets CPR & pets first aid trained we have OH&S seminars 3 times a year.As well as pet behavior seminars,we give our sitters 24/7 support. The sitters keep you updated with photos and emails if you request. If an emergency comes up & a sitter needs to leave we have another professional sitter to stand in.You get to have a free meet n greet with the sitter and interview them and show & tell them what you would like them to do for your pets and home.I follow up & call the the owners of the house after each house sit to see how it went to keep track to make sure my sitters are staying up to a very good standard & to make sure that the owners are happy.Happy owners are clients for life!

I don’t think these house sitter services do this.I think its a good idea, and I am sure there is some really great sitters out there. But the old saying you get what you pay for is so true.My sitters get paid for what they do & live in your area and want to get repeat business. So they do their best this is a job to them. Our services are still cheaper than kennels in most cases so its a win win all around.Be careful I have interviewed over 300 potential sitters in 4 years and have only employed 20.You need to know what to look for.Good luck to everyone & remember if your pets are demanding a free service is not always the best way to go.But its your pets and home & your decision.                                We care for all types of pets domestic and rural                    If you would like t0 have a chat or look at our website www.pettaxi.net.au      PH 0428568852

The first settlement began in 1803 as a penal colony at Risdon Cove on the eastern shores of the Derwent River, amid British concerns over the presence of French explorers. In 1804 it was moved to a better location at the present site of Hobart at Sullivans Cove. The city, initially known as Hobart Town or Hobarton, was named after Lord Hobart, the Colonial Secretary.

The area’s indigenous inhabitants were members of the semi-nomadic Mouheneener tribe.[6] Violent conflict with the European settlers, and the effects of diseases brought by them, dramatically reduced the aboriginal population, which was rapidly replaced by free settlers and the convict population. Charles Darwin visited Hobart Town in February 1836 as part of the Beagle expedition. He writes of Hobart and the Derwent estuary in his Voyage of the Beagle:

…The lower parts of the hills which skirt the bay are cleared; and the bright yellow fields of corn, and dark green ones of potatoes, appear very luxuriant… I was chiefly struck with the comparative fewness of the large houses, either built or building. Hobart Town, from the census of 1835, contained 13,826 inhabitants, and the whole of Tasmania 36,505.

The Derwent River was one of Australia’s finest deepwater ports and was the centre of the Southern Ocean whaling and the sealing trade, the settlement rapidly grew into a major port, with allied industries such as shipbuilding. Hobart Town became a city on 21 August 1842, and was renamed Hobart from the beginning of 1881.[7]
